August 20 – Eco Printing Basics
Join us for a short program where we unbundle the mystery and magic of eco-printing. Each participant will create their own unique print on silk fabric with leaves and flowers.
Eco-printing/dyeing is the transfer of pigments and tannins from leaves and plant material to fabric. The plant material is laid out on fabric, bundled and steamed. The heat causes the release of tannins and pigments, the bundling keeps the pigments in place. The result is an image of the plant material.
Eco-printing differs from ‘natural dyeing’…while both use natural plant materials, natural dyeing more commonly results in a fabric being dyed one color. With eco-printing, each leaf print provides the color for your piece.
This program will be a basic class. No experience is necessary.
$35/$30 Members/Registration Required, Limited Seating/Ages 21+
